McShane Construction Company Awarded 50-Bed Memory Care Residence in Merrillville, Indiana

May 18, 2015

Jeffrey A. Raday, P.E., President of McShane Construction Company, is pleased to announce that the firm was recently selected to provide the construction services for Merrillville Memory Care, a 50-bed housing residence that will offer high-level care for individuals suffering from memory loss. The firm was selected by Dete Development, LLC to complete the comprehensive new construction assignment on behalf of Whiteco Industries, the land owner and developer of the memory care facility.

The 33,760 square foot, single-story complex is under construction on a 9.3-acre site at 7900 Rhode Island Street, adjacent to Interstate 65 and U.S. 30 in Merrillville, Indiana, a northwest suburb.

The complex will utilize wood frame construction and feature a blend of attractive exterior finishes including fiber-cement siding, masonry, and manufactured stone veneer accents.  A welcoming entrance highlighted by a porte-cochère will lead residents and guests into a comfortable interior setting that provides a soothing and inviting atmosphere.  A central courtyard will serve as the property’s focal point visible from numerous window-lined interior walls and will feature generous patio space with seating areas, a wood pergola and walkways surrounded by elegant landscaping.

The residence will incorporate 48 units designed and constructed to maximize the comfort, safety and security of memory care patients.   In addition to individual living spaces, common areas will include a living room with a see-through fireplace, dining area with a full-service kitchen, activity center, relaxation room, spa and salon.  Two nursing stations located within both of the residential wings will also be completed.

The innovative layout of the complex will be enhanced by state-of-the-art technology including a nurse call system, security system and keyless access control technology.

All sitework for the assignment will be completed by McShane Construction including landscaping and an on-site paved parking lot for 37 vehicles.

“Today’s memory care facilities require an experienced project team to successfully deliver an environment that supports the specific needs and well-being of individuals suffering from memory loss,” remarked Raday.  “Drawing upon our years of experience, and specific expertise in the construction of memory care facilities, I am confident that McShane Construction will deliver a product that positively impacts the lives of its residents and their loved-ones who will find comfort in the support and security that Merrillville Memory Care has to offer.”
