On behalf of developer, Interfaith Housing Development Corporation, McShane Construction completed the extensive renovations and new construction of the 51,495 square foot Grove Apartments located in Oak Park, Illinois.
The former two-story Comcast office building was transformed into a LEED-Registered supportive and affordable housing residence with the new construction of two additional stories to the existing structure and the incorporation of numerous sustainable elements such as a geothermal HVAC system and energy-efficient windows and appliances.
The four-story complex now features 51 one-bedroom residential units on floors two through four, several of which are handicap accessible, together with on-floor laundry facilities. The ground level incorporates a large community room, tenant storage and 5,230 square feet of retail space. As part of the assignment, McShane Construction also restored the building’s original Albert Kahn design that required a comprehensive brick and precast façade makeover that replaced the former stucco exterior.
